folding pages

we commissioned this work for my mum by the wonderful book sculptor Nicholas Jones. So nice to honour books as pieces in themselves - the endpages on this old tale were too hard to go past.

This image is from an exhibition on at ACMI at the moment - 'correspondences' - huge black and white snow landscapes. Beautiful.

Avoidance, Beer and Cigarettes: The spaces in between.

I think I need
those spaces in between.
When the cleaning gets done,
or I walk and walk.
I can punctuate with cigarettes
and muse over ale.
Waiting for the welling
of something to happen.
An avoidance of what must be done
allows it to emerge in the end.

new eyes

“The real voyage of discovery consists not of seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes”
(Marcel Proust)

one can but try...
so when I get that itch, continually, to just bail and let something new re-energize me...
which I have done so often, the aim is to create my own interest in what is already here.

Don't get me wrong, I will not stop travelling throughout my life (I hope) - for inspiration and perspective and knowledge.

But...blah.

curiosity killed the cat eh

how to create a space that inspires play?

Thinking about design and play - how to create a space that inspires play. It is unbelieveably subjective...so more about stimulating an audience/participant's imagination?

Play space = surprising things are put/used together
= scale is affected – small, large spaces
= levels – how are you in relation to others?
= peepholes/opacity – how much can you see/imagine?
= repetition – playfulness/absurdity in numbers ie Mexican waves

EXPLORING & DISCOVERING – expanding sensation
